With the Knicks personnel no longer ideally suited for Mike D'Antonio's 'Seven Seconds or Less' system, he is adjusting his playbook.

“Probably,” D’Antoni said Thursday when asked if this is the biggest adjustment he has had to make as a head coach since 2004. “Really, there’s all kinds of different ways you can play it, and we’re going to try to maximize just what the players do.”

Carmelo Anthony's skills are perhaps an antithesis to D'Antoni's ball-and-player movement philosophy.

“We’re always going to be a little bit of an iso, one-on-one kind of a team, which, to be honest with you, is pretty good,” D’Antoni said.

While D'Antoni is willing to adapt, he doesn't want to abandon his identity.

“I think we’ll meet some place halfway in between,” he said Thursday, “because we don’t want to lose what Melo and those guys do the best. A lot of it is going one-on-one. They’re the best in the league at it."

Anthony spent several summers with D’Antoni on the United States national team, which essentially ran D’Antoni’s system.

“It’s kind of hard to double-team guys in this offensive set that we run,” Anthony said. “I like it, and it’s only going to get better.”

D'Antoni is simply being pragmatic with his offensive adjustments.

“I think we’ll all make adjustments and we’ll all make sacrifices,” D’Antoni said, “and the end product should be: This is the best we can play. Whatever that is, we’ll do."

This is something D'Antoni should have already made the decision on once we traded 3 starters, obviously the players we had coming in werent fit for this system anymore.

Im beginning to believe that he isnt the right coach for this team anymore, we have a team thats at least willing to incorporate defense and he's still as stubborn as ever

Thats why whenever the erractic James Dolan lets Donnie Walsh go for Isiah, we should also go ahead and let D'Antoni's contract run out also.

I really dont know what candidates are out there, but Id like to see them bring in Pat Ewing to help with Amare, whether he's the assistant or HC

it's something they didnt change already because they didn't really have any days to practice up until recently. I think i was reading just the other day that Melo finally had his first shootaround with the team. I don't got a problem with D'Antoni right now, although I do believe if we want to go "all the way" in 2012 or 2013 we're going to need to bring in an asst. coach like Ewing or w/e to help these guys learn to play defense inside and rebound.

I honstly believe that people in the FO will basically let it be known that if he lets Walsh go and hires back Isiah, that 75% of the people IN the FO will quit their job, lol. Because they know they'll become obsolete and this dude will just run the show right into the ground again.

From what I read about Dolan and his personality

he wouldnt give a f-ck

The dude is a dumbass, his friendship with Isiah obviously means more to him then building a successfull contending organization. And the idea he would even think about bringing him back shows that.

I really wish Stern could step in and keep it from happening, because he knows it too.

Trillz but Chauncey did run the Nuggets uptempo offense right before this so he's probably used to it.

For real? I didn't know Nuggets ran an uptempo.
Chauncey was the king of half-court, figured the Nuggets would use that as well.
