I just don't get the point of giving a max to a boarderline max player when they're going to be a RFA. Let someone else make the offer then match it, might get lucky and no one gives him a max.

Feel like if it wasn't the Warriors, someone else woulda gave him a max.

Klay is a damn good player, but not worth the max yet.

He's definitely worth a max

I know small sample size, but he is currently averaging over 29ppg so far (and won POTW)

He was going to be maxed anyways by some other team, so why not extend him before the cap goes up and that max is even larger?

Plus, they turned down Klay for Love. They had to keep Thompson at all costs from that point on

The 29 ppg at the onset is irrelevant but he will be worth the contract under the raised salary cap. I've said this in basically every extension thread, but its true with the cap expected to raise to 80 or 90 mill. Teams should be actively trying to lock up players before salaries become inflated again. Those players will agree to it too, especially ones who are coming off rookie contracts
