Kings notes: Kings might be TV series subject

While the Kings' national presence has gone from visible to nonexistent in the last few years, the Maloofs might have found a way to garner attention by turning a spotlight on the organization.
Maloof Productions is partnering with reality icon Mark Burnett for a behind-the-scenes series called "Rebuilding the Kingdom" on all things Kings.
Burnett, the man behind "Survivor" and "The Apprentice," told the Hollywood Reporter the show would be "committed to creating fun and innovative programming."
The show is in the early stages and does not currently have a network partner.
Maloof Productions is well versed in reality TV, producing SpikeTV's "Bullrun" and "Living Lohan," a reality series following Ali Lohan of Maloof Music.
"It's a good idea," Kings rookie Jason Thompson said. "We have a lot of young guys, and (our lives) intrigue a lot of people, especially rookies' lives. We have guys who aren't shy to the camera. We have a lot of personalities and guys who like to have fun."
One of those personalities, Francisco García, said he thought the series sounded like a "great idea." If the series on the Kings moves forward, it will be the first venture between Maloof Productions and Mark Burnett Productions.
Kings coach Reggie Theus laughed when jokingly asked where the Kings could find someone to play a coach on TV.
"I hear this guy named Dick Butkus does," said Theus, who played a coach on the teen sitcom "Hang Time."
Theus then turned serious, calling the project "an interesting concept."
"There is a lot of good marketing possibilities there," Theus said. "For a team in transition, there are some positive things. There could be some negatives if it's not handled correctly."
The reality series likely will focus on the business side of the Kings' operations. While it will include player and coach personality segments, the intent is for the show not to be driven by them. That will set it apart from "Hard Knocks," the documentary series on the Dallas Cowboys, which is produced by NFL Films and HBO.
"Where it stands right now, the premise would focus on the inner workings of the Kings' organization," Kings spokesman Troy Hanson said.
