WASHINGTON -- Jason Kidd's days as a starter may be over.

Mike Woodson removed the struggling veteran from the starting lineup prior to last night's 96-88 victory over the Washington Wizards and made Kidd the back-up point guard, the role Kidd expected to play when he signed a three year contract last July.

Woodson did not say the move is permanent but considering that Kidd had scored a total of 30 points in 11 games last month, the Knicks can't survive without getting more production from the shooting guard position.

Kidd scored four points with five assists in 27 minutes during the Knicks 96-88 victory over the Wizards. Although Iman Shumpert, shifted from small forward to his natural position of shooting guard, scored just three points he gave Woodson the type of defense the team had lacked in recent weeks. James White started at small forward and failed to score in 10 minutes.

"With Woody switching the lineup it took a little pressure off J-Kidd," Carmelo Anthony said. "He's been terrific for us all season and when he has the ball in his hands he makes plays for everybody. We didn't expect Jason to play 35, 40 minutes a night. So he comes in off the bench and controls the tempo of the game. That's when he's at his best."

"I came in thinking I'd be the back-up but with the (injured) guys we had on our roster coached asked me to start," Kidd said. "Whatever they need me to do; starting, coming off the bench…I just want to help the team.
Well, I don't disagree with the move -- but starting James White is not the answer. Sheed is done for the season, so they need to look in to getting another big man though idk who is out there. Heck, they might need to consider starting Kurt Thomas at PF for a little while -- honestly, there's no other option.

It doesn't matter if Flight starts

He plays 10 minutes and JR plays 33. Take out Shump, put in Amare.

Not that hard

it does matter if Flight starts. he's getting 10 minutes and doing jack shit on the court during that time. I'd rather see kmart get that time. I'd rather see Thomas get that time.

and earlier this year Kurt Thomas was starting games, only playing like 10 or 12 minutes when he "started" and was much more productive both defensively and on the boards. I'd rather see him get those minutes.

Also, with Camby back tomorrow a few of those minutes might go his way as well.

yep. sometimes Melo plays PF, other times he plays SF. Shumpert can play SF/SG, Amar'e can play PF and sometimes C depending on the matchup (although thats only positive offensively. he'll still get crushed defensively). They can switch up the matchups very easily game to game.
