i know he plays heavy minutes but 18ppg off the bench is impressive.

This is why I hate this award. He may have been "off the bench" but he was playing over 30 minutes a game. He was basically playing starter's minutes, and I noticed Jeff Van Gundy pointed that out on Saturday as well. 
 
He had a good year, probably deserved it, but I just feel like he could have easily been a starter most of the year. Most of the year they opted to start guys like Copeland or James White, and they would start and play the first 5 minutes, JR would come in off the bench, and then those guys wouldn't see the court for the rest of the game.
