Josh Smith has agreed to a four-year, $56 million deal with the Detroit Pistons, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
The Pistons pursued Smith the hardest, with agents Brian Dyke and Wallace Prather reaching an agreement with Detroit general manager Joe Dumars on Saturday morning, sources said.
Smith, 27, is one of the NBA's most unique and versatile talents, a 6-foot-9 forward who averaged 17.5 points, 8.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists for the Atlanta Hawks last season.
Smith joins a promising young frontcourt that includes forward Greg Monroe and center Andre Drummond.
Atlanta had been hopeful of working a sign-and-trade agreement with Smith, but he ultimately was able to sign directly into the Pistons' salary-cap space.

Giving Joe Dumars cap space is always a bad idea.

Lol Good for Josh, not sure how it's gonna work for the Pistons but they'll definitely be an athletic squad!

You thinking Rondo?
not now. if pressey does real well in summer camp, then a rondo for monroe+2014 1st+filler(stuckey) deal might happen

If there is anyone ever that overrated Rondo it's Danny Ainge. So Dumars has gotta blow him away.

I remember preliminary deal with Dallas for Rondo was Boston wanted Dirk, Larkin, and 2-3 1sts

If they got Rondo, who on that team would actually be able to get the ball in the hoop?

What a dumb question.

Charlie V is still on the roster.

Depending on the deal. KCP can score easy.

Certainly not ecstatic, cause I'm not sure about how well he fits. But he is certainly the best player that has signed with the Pistons in years. And I have always liked Josh Smith. And though he got a big deal, I certainly don't think it's an absurd contract. It's reasonable.
I also don't see us trading Monroe now, and I hope we don't. I'd rather see if he can work well at the 3 before we move Greg. We certainly have lots of athleticism on this team.
Hope this isn't the only move for us this offseason.

I think the quality of this signing depends on what yall do with Greg. Defensively he's an good defender at the 3 or 4, but he really doesn't have the offensive ability to play the 3. Atlanta has almost exclusively played him at the 4 the past three seasons, but when they have played him at the three he's been really poor.

I don't know, I'd personally rather Greg over Smith all things considered. What about you?

I'm in agreement on the contract. I guess the 5 years is a big commitment but Tyreke Evans and Iggy both got more money per year, Josh Smith is clearly superior to both and still only 27.

Have to deal Monroe now though. Drummond and Josh would be a fucking boss defensive front court. Terrifying.
