It sounds like Josh McDaniels will be part of another Patriots playoff run.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Patriots are expected to hire McDaniels as an offensive assistant immediately. He will reportedly assist the team during their playoff run.
Bill O’Brien, who took the job to be the head coach at Penn State, remains on staff as an offensive coordinator. But McDaniels will provide another set of hands for the playoff run and is ultimately expected to replace O’Brien as coordinator.
McDaniels faced a lot of the AFC playoff competition this year while working for the Rams, including the Steelers, Ravens, and Bengals.
There was a lot of speculation that McDaniels could join Romeo Crennel in Kansas City, but the Chiefs were never known to have requested permission to speak with him. Perhaps they knew of his desire to return to the Patriots.
