Then from his blog on ESPN.Tonight on ESPN radio John Clayton was asked on the Michael Irvin show if he thought Bill Cowher would sign with the Browns. He replied yes. He said the reason Cowher had said he probally wont coach in 09 was out of respect for Crennel and his staff finishing the year. The second reason...Money. The strategy is...If he waits until the end of the year, the price is driven up by other teams who will be looking for a coach. The 3 things he wants are 1) Money...The Browns are starting at 8 mil. 2) A QB. Reports say...Quinn fits. 3) Control of personell. That doesnt sound good for Savage or Romeo.
Saw someone post this at a Browns forum... I guess it looks like it is actually doable and I hope this gets done. We need a change in this organization and no better way to start it with a guy who has had tons of success in his career. No one is officially throwing in the white towel in Cleveland, but it seems as though the Browns organization is heading for a major shake-up. The Brady Quinn situation is a mess. Quinn made a fracture to his index finger worse by playing against the Texans Sunday, and now the organization has only three games tapes to see where he is after two seasons. Coach Romeo Crennel, feeling the heat and anticipating the franchise will make a run at Bill Cowher, said Quinn will be the starting quarterback next season. Derek Anderson can't feel good about Crennel's statement -- it tells Anderson he's trade bait after the season. Owner Randy Lerner cited communication breakdowns in regards to Kellen Winslow's complaints after he was hospitalized with a staph infection. If the Browns get Cowher, it will cost general manager Phil Savage his job.
