This dude is fast. Reminds me of Welker a lot.The Jets just announced the move. They released veteran DT Howard Green to make room for Woodhead.
The Jets have signed practice-squad running back-turned-wide receiver Danny Woodhead to the active roster today, according to a person with knowledge of the situation who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he's not authorized to speck publicly. DT Howard Green was cut to make room for Woodhead.
The move was likely prompted by the injuries to wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery (hamstring) and Brad Smith (quad). Cotchery is out and Smith isn't expected to play, either.
David Clowney will make his first career NFL start alongside newly-acquired Braylon Edwards. Tight end Dustin Keller will likely line up wide in several formations.
Woodhead, a two-time Division 1-AA Player of the Year at Chadron St., was moved to wide receiver this week after impressing the coaches while impersonating Patriots slot receiver Wes Welker on the scout team prior to a Week 2 game against the Patriots.
``We put him in the slot and he was tough,'' said Jets coach Rex Ryan. ``He really was. With our running back situation, we've got three really, really good tailbacks, his better shot might be to learn receiver. He could be one of those jack of all trades guys. He becomes really valuable that way.''
Woodhead, a second-year pro, rushed for a club preseason record 158 yards and two touchdowns in the preseason finale against the Eagles and made the 53-man roster on cutdown day. But he was releasing the following day as the Jets tweaked the bottom of their roster.
Several days later, Woodhead was signed to the practice squad. He spend last season on injured reserve with a knee injury.
