Last year it was bounties and Gregg Williams' Power Point presentations that looked like they were made by PFT Commenter (no offense). In 2011, we hadbillionaires versus millionaires threatening us with no football. This summer, it's crime and grime, mostly headlined by the bizarre, sad story of Aaron Hernandez's first-degree murder charge. NFL offseason stories can be tiring. Still very important to the game, but oh so very tiring.
There was a lull in the Hernandez story. A hungry media moved quickly to fill the 24-hour news cycle. The Jets, conveniently located in the country's largest media market, fed the world YET ANOTHER ridiculous quarterback controversy.
That's where the New York Jets come in.
Geno Smith in the read option? Mark Sanchezready to lead? Rex Ryan struggling to climb a fence with deadly bulls chasing him as a metaphor for his waning days with the Jets? Finally, the offseason story you've been waiting for.

It's bound to be a major discussion during Training Camp and throughout the season, so what are your opinions?

Sanchez will probably start IMO, with Geno working himself in there again

It still should be Sanchez's job to lose going into the season at least, but if he shows he doesn't deserve it there is no reason to keep running him out there.

Start Geno from the getgo, see if he shows any flashes. If not, move on and take a QB with your top 5 pick.

Yea, one thing you don't want to do is not find out if Geno can be the guy, because being forced to take a RT or a WLB over a future QB would suck

Play Geno.  I don't believe the Jets will be that good of a team this year unless they can get a "Spark" from someone and Geno could be that guy.  In the process it can give you a pretty descent evaluation of him if he's your guy moving forward or if you believe you can actually get a franchise guy early in the '14 draft as there should be atleast 2 or 3 of them in that class.

Edit:
Something I forgot to add was that by not playing Sanchez you leave the illusion that maybe in the right circumstance he could be successful and if a team that thinks they're a contender they might be willing to trade something for him even in a rental type of situation where as if you play him & he sucks you further ruin any chance of that happening

Geno was also a 2nd round pick, so it's not quite as big of a gamble, and it won't set them back that far if he's a dud.  See what he's got.

You know what you're getting from Sanchez already. I don't see anything changing with him.

I'm lost on why Sanchez is still there.

I bet when Rex Ryan is fired Sanchez will be shown the door with him.

This is the last year of his Sanchez contract anyways, unless he has some type of huge season I don't think he's back with the Jets reguardless of what happens to Rex Ryan.

This is the Jets though. He'll probably never play, and because he's an unknown still on the roster, they'll pass on whoever the first QB is taken, and that dude will make the HOF.

Sanchez has had his chances. 3 years is more than most QBs who play as poorly as he has. it's time for a new face.
