Last season, it was a rocky road for Cousins as his immaturity showed very obviously at quite a few different points last season. In all honesty, the Kings have seen nothing more than Cousins showing that he can be a headache to his teammates, and also start drama in the lockerroom. There is no doubt that Cousins has a ton of potential on the court, but his off the court issues could prove to be too much for the Kings. To prove that he gives his teammates problems, there was a game where he was playing his teammate, Francisco Garcia in a meaningless exhibition game, but he seemd to go extra hard at his teammate.
There is a lot to like about Cousins when he's on the floor with his head right, putting up numbers that are very impressive in his rookie season. Cousins finished up his rookie season with 14.1 PPG and 8.6 RPG, very solid for a young big man. He did have a rough field goal percentage (43 percent), but he can always improve those things, and needs to moving forward. The more pressing issue is obviously his attitude and approach to the game.
The Kings drafted Cousins despite already knowing and seeing the kind of attitude that this kid had. The tough part is now looking back and regretting not looking into it more. Paul Westphal reportedly felt a little bit over his head with Cousins proved to be a bigger task than expected, and when your coach feels like that, it can't mean good things.
All that being said, there are some things that make Sacramento hopeful that Cousins will grow up and become that big presence on the court that he is capable of. The fact that he's still incredibly young is the biggest on of those reasons to be hopeful. With time, they hope he'll realize that he's not just hurting himself by these immature acts, but he's hurting his franchise, and their reputation.
So all that being said, I'm going to wrap up this article with a simple question. Do you guys think that DeMarcus Cousins is really worth it for the Kings? Will he change his ways, and if so what kind of player do you see him becoming in his career?
Hope you enjoyed this article, and I'd love to get some discussion going about this. Hope you all enjoy the read.
