When NBA Commissioner David Stern closes the second day of the league’s Board of Governors meeting at New York’s St. Regis Hotel today, the New Orleans Hornets could have a new owner.

It appears the league might be ready to choose between an offer from a group headed by California swimwear manufacturer Raj Bhathal that will include former Hornets minority owner Gary Chouest and a bid from New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson.

The Board of Governors could be asked to approve the ownership transfer for the Hornets before the meeting adjourns this afternoon.

I also just talked to one of my sources. Benson has know for a week that he was getting the bid and has already started putting together a team to look at rebranding. He likes Monty and dell. Also what I thought was interesting is he wants to make a big splash in FA right away to show the rest of the league this is a new organization that will not be afraid to make major moves like in the past.

There are no big free agents other than D-Will and he'd never go there

Then who would you envision your big splash being?

By big splash, I think it means overpay for a starter.

You have to understand that the Hornets have had little to no success since coming to New Orleans. The fans are some of the least spoiled fans in the NBA.

I'd say if they came out and reupped Gordon, signed Goran Dragic, and a decent C, that would be a big splash in Hornets terms.

That's not a big splash in any team's terms

Meanwhile, Drew Brees is still waiting for his extension.
