Kyle Lowry and the Miami Heat have mutual interest.

Lowry will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason and would be a more affordable option for the Heat than Carmelo Anthony, while addressing a need at point guard. Lowry is one of the better defensive players at point guard in the NBA.

Lowry had the best season of his career, leading the Toronto Raptors to the NBA Playoffs.

Damn, well that would be a nice fit lol.

Uhh, salary cap?

Wade will accept his PO. Bosh and James probably will too. Cole is under contract for $2M.

That's $63M in cap space, leaving the heat the MLE and vet min contracts. Lowry isn't signing for under $5.5M in Miami when he'll get at least $10 in Toronto

Same way they'd do it if they were gonna go after Melo, paycuts.

Why would they take away their $20M salaries for Kyle Lowry??

Cause he is a fringe all-star.

We've already heard guys don't want to take less. This and Melo is just interest, they're probably not very realistic.

Basically, the Heat can have 61M if everyone (James, Wade, Bosh, and Haslem) opts out but they would have to renounce their rights to all of those players in order for that to happen. If they were to renounce those rights, they would then no longer own their bird writes to sign them when over the cap. Basically, James, Wade, and Bosh would all have to agree to take 8M less per season than they would get if they just opted in or didn't sign a Melo or Lowry. After that they would have like 5M left to sign the other 7 players to make up a 12 man roster.

Technically the report said they don't want to take less money unless it is used to add a valuable piece to the team. However I think the big 3 also realize you can only do so much with 3 main pieces -- when you don't have a solid bench you can be vulnerable.

if those guys take less money and either Lowry or Melo signs in Miami, I might just give up on Basketball to be quite honest, lol.

Right, but how much less is too much less? That's what I would be asking.

I mean at 14M a year you could be looking at LeBron only making 11M starting next season.

I mean I'm not even trolling by saying this but I still think the Spurs would be better.

Another thing about this is that the Heat Big 3 have all played with Melo at the Olympics and All-star games, etc. I don't think they're taking less money for Kyle Lowry, who they haven't played with and isn't a star in this league.

I could see them taking less money so the team can sign/acquire 2 or 3 solid pieces to go around them. A good PG, a better C to backup Anderson or w/e, shit like that. Idk if they necessarily would take less just to add 1 star player.

And yes Spurs are still a better team, but for how much longer?

I can't. It's a great idea in practice but when push comes to shove are they really going to take less money? I guess we'll see, but I doubt it

These guys make more on endorsements than they do with their salary. I don't think it is that far-fetched that they take another paycut to make the team better.

Yeah but these guys are greedy. We've already heard LeBron complain that he's underpaid on a few occasions.

$5 million is a significant amount of money any way you look at it.  Doesn't matter how much money you make.

Look at guys like Amare, Boozer, who went from All-Star to playing like a bench player. I bet they were glad they were getting paid a lot

No way at all Wade goes for less, and I doubt Bosh does either. And Lebron isn't going to take THAT much less than his teammates
