For days, it’s been clear the Steelers and James Harrison weren’t getting anywhere in talks about lowering his salary/cap hit.

So now the inevitable has apparently happened, with Harrison tweeting out his goodbye to Steelers fans.

[font=Helvetica Neue']It's been a great run but all good things must come to a end. Thank you Steelers Nation I will miss you all!

Harrison played well when he got well last year, but approaching 35 years old and with a $6.57 million salary, the Steelers did what they have done so many times — they walked away from one of their own sooner rather than later.

It's really remarkable how quickly players fall out in the league. One minute they're considered top 5 at their position, 2-3 years later they're being cut. It's kind of awesome, actually. Obviously someone will pick him up on a solid deal -- he still has a lot left. I'm assuming he'll get around $3.5M per year wherever he goes.

New Orleans needs to get on this since Dallas franchised Spencer. Rob Ryan needs some veteran leadership for any young 3-4 OLBs he's working with.

Not sure if Harrison's best fit is in New Orleans. I feel like he'd excel more in Cleveland than NO

The Steelers are also really good at getting rid of guys before they really fall off. I think he has 1 or 2 good years left in him.

Exactly. He's definitely on the decline, but this was purely a financial move. clearly felt he wasn't worth as much as he was getting.

I can envision Cleveland making a push.
