Monroe and the Pistons could not agree on an extension, and even if the Pistons had offered Monroe a max contract, there was a strong chance Monroe wouldve declined. In four seasons with Detroit, Monroe has played for four coaches, and the Pistons have not won more than 30 games in any of those seasons.

Monroes representatives steered other teams from presenting Monroe with an offer sheet because they didnt want the Pistons to match and keep Monroe for another four seasons. Now, Monroe will have freedom to pick his next team, and thats what he wanted: control of his future.

There is some risk in signing a qualifying offer Monroe could get hurt or have a down season. But Monroe, the No. 7 pick in the 2010 NBA Draft, has missed just three games in his career, and new Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy will still have to utilize Monroe, even with center Andre Drummond.

Damn, you'd think with us bringing in Stan he'd be willing to buy in, but apparently he has 0 desire to stay here long term.

Not really sure what else could have contributed, especially with a whole new staff now.
Perhaps he just hates Michigan lol. Couldn't really blame him if so.

It could be a number of things. He may just not like playing alongside Drummond.

Maybe so. The two of them seem pretty close though.

Though I guess that might not strain an off the court relationship.

I don't doubt the two are friends, Drumm seems like a likable dude.

But I could also see how irritating it could be playing out of position. Maybe Monroe just really dislikes playing the four and knows that with Drummond in Detroit he won't be playing the five.

we did. he has never seemed like he's liked it here. at the games anyways. he could like being in the state, but he just doesn't seem like he's liked the team atmosphere.

Hard to be pissed at him, cause I still like him as a player. It is what it is I guess.
