Greg Monroe may until the end of the 2013-14 season before addressing whether to sign an extension with the Detroit Pistons.

Monroe could enter into talks with the Pistons after his third year, which would be this summer.

"Greg isn't gonna go backwards between his third and fourth year," Monroe’s agent, David Falk said. "I don't think I've ever done an extension after a third year. In the 90's you maxed out a guy after his second, but the (CBA) rules are different now.

"When I evaluate things, with a player of Greg's stature: Take the money out of the equation. I can get it from five different teams. 'Are there players I want to play with? A coach I want to play for? A city I want to live in?' My job is to make the money as insignificant as possible (relatively)."

Monroe is scheduled to become a restricted free agent in July of 2014.

"What incentive does a player have to do an extension after his third year? For me personally, it's difficult to do that," Falk said. “The structure of the CBA, for me, I can't speak for others, I question why that makes sense.”

the guys on realgm dont want to believe he may want to leave. his attitude is great and hes an awesome team player but you can tell even at his age he takes pride in winning and this team has no real direction, hes even said right now hes more comfortable at the 5 and not paired with drummond and again, realgm posters think that's bs.

i think it has a lot to do with this.

It definitely could. I don't think anyone can argue his game is much better suited for the 4 and not the 5.

And the winning part, I'm sure he's frustrated with what seems to be a stalled team. Yall don't seem to be getting worse, but yall aren't getting better either. Three straight seasons of 37-38 win percentage.

he needs to get a more consistent midrange faceup game before he can play the 4, fulltime. and with him playing the 5 more and more and more, its not helping.

i would be frustrated with us too. we cant play bad enough to get a high impact player and we cant win enough to even slip in the hunt.

I think the quote says it all though, and I think in a way he's kind of putting Dumars on notice.

Doesn't really matter if he's putting Dumars on notice or whatever, he's going to sign a long term offer sheet with some team as a RFA, and the Pistons will match.
