Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy is expected to be placed on the exempt list Wednesday, following the course set by the NFL and Minnesota Vikings earlier in the day.

At 12:47 a.m. local time, the Vikings issued a statement that Peterson is away from all team activities on the commissioner's exempt list until his child abuse case is resolved. USA Today reported Wednesday it's possible Peterson and attorney Rusty Hardin will seek a plea deal to settle the case quickly.

The NFLPA issued a statement Wednesday afternoon that no official agreement was in place, but Hardy had already left team headquarters following a meeting with head coach Ron Rivera and general manager Dave Gettleman. On Monday, before Tuesday's customary off day, Rivera said Hardy would practice and be with the team all week in meetings. He was not present for Wednesday's on-field workout.

Hardy and Panthers officials met early Wednesday at the team facility to discuss options.
