The city of Glendale is prepared to sue the Goldwater Institute for stalling its deal with Chicago businessman Matthew Hulsizer for the Phoenix Coyotes.
Mayor Elaine Scruggs confirmed an ESPN.com report to the Arizona Republic on Sunday saying that city council has authorized an attorney to file suit against the government watchdog group
While ESPN.com reported the city was expected to take action as early as Monday, she could not provide a timetable to The Republic.
The suit could be Glendale's last effort to get Goldwater to stop its interference in the deal - which is expected to keep the NHL team at Jobing.com Arena for the next 30 years.
A source told The Republic that the city is expected to sue for as much as $500 million, the amount of economic impact Glendale says it would lose if the NHL team left.
