The Giants and Edgar Renteria are once again discussing a potential deal, according to Mychael Urban of CSNBayArea.com (on Twitter). However, the team is not optimistic about re-signing the infielder, since Renteria has drawn interest from other clubs. The Giants offered a deal in the $1MM range earlier in the offseason, but Renteria didn't like the proposal and suggested it showed a "lack of respect."

The Reds offered Renteria a deal weeks ago, according to ESPN Deportes. Renteria, 34, says he intends to play for two more seasons. He batted .276/.332/.374 in 267 plate appearances last year, missing time with elbow, groin, hamstring and shoulder injuries before returning to form and winning the World Series MVP.
I'd like to believe he's GOT two more years in him but his body seems to be taking a beating lately, and I have no idea how productive he could be. Nevertheless, when he's healthy he's still a great veteran bat, and at the very least he could be a backup if his production declines from playing every day.

I think other teams have been offering him slightly better deals but that he wants to stay in San Fran so he's holding out for a deal that would at least match the other offers.

Why would it be sarcasm? For all the injuries and missed time, he still had decent numbers and was, no doubt, one of the reasons they won the World Series. Why shouldn't he be looking for more than $1M?

he had ok numbers i guess
and he had a few good games in the WS

so what.
he's still old and oft-injured
he wont be starting. Tejada and Sanchez SS,2B. Fontenot is their main backup infielder
in 2009 he sucked as well

i think he's lucky to even have a major league offer.
burrell signed for 1M with them and he's worth more than Renteria imo

x2. Edgar Renteria is one of my favorite players of all-time cuz hes colombian and there arent many in the majors. Dude needs a respectable contract for what he did for the Giants this past year. He provides a great veteran prescence for the young guys and he was very clutch in the postseason. Idc what he did in the regular season, he stepped it up big time when it mattered most and thats why he deserves a better contract.
