George Karl has been named the recipient of the Red Auerbach Trophy as the 2012-13 NBA Coach of the Year.

Karl, who guided the Nuggets to the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference, joins Doug Moe as the only coaches in franchise history to win the award. It also is the first time Karl has received the honor in his 25 NBA seasons.

Karl totaled 404 points, including 62 first-place votes, from a panel of 121 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada.

Bad timing with the first round exit, but I don't mind it.

lmao. that team was a 6 seed, went on a hot streak that didnt have to only do with the players, the coaching staff had to do with it too.

hes also been one of the most consistent coaches and hes never won an award.

Mark Jackson took a perennial bottom feeder and turned them into one of the best teams in the league, not to mention he installed a culture of defense in a team that hadn't had one for years, if ever.

Denver had a better defensive efficiency and climbed the rankings nearly just as much this season as Golden State.

I thought it was a toss up between Mark Jackson, George Karl, and Tom Thibeadou (I probably spelled that wrong) and there is definitely a valid argument on any of those sides. I think Thibs should have won, but that is a personal opinion.

Karl is reasonable though. He took a team with no real superstar and took them to the 3rd seed in the West. If that isn't impressive, I don't know what is.

So what? Denver is a perennial playoff contender who often overachieves in the regular season only to get punked by somebody in the playoffs. George Karl has done this year in and year out and he was even less effective when he had a real superstar.
