[Garrioch] NYR Could Hire Brian Burke if Glen Sather Steps Down?

People noted your favourite scribe missed two names for GMs who are on the hotseat: No. 1 is Buffalo GM Darcy Regier, who tried cleaning house at the deadline, but failed to move RW Drew Stafford and the coaching change was a failure. Montreal assistant GM Rick Dudley is a possible replacement. Listed at No. 2 is Dallas GM Joe Nieuwendyk. He wasn't hired by owner Tom Gagliardi and the name of former Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke keeps surfacing as a possible replacement with the Stars. For some reason, he's also been linked to the Rangers if Glen Sather steps aside from his GM duties ... Talk won't stop Flames president Ken King will be thanked before moving on and somehow GM Jay Feaster will stay on.

Gorton is regarded as experienced in player personnel matters and is believed to be a leading candidate to become the Rangers’ general manager when Sather steps down. Sather referred to Gorton as one of his top advisers in an interview with The New York Times last season.

“I like that we have a bunch of guys on the staff who feel like they have something to prove,” Sather said in the interview.

Gorton has been there for awhile and it seems like he has the resume' to be the GM especially with the way he's been with the organization.
