Bears DE Gaines Adams died on Sunday morning in Greenwood, S.C. at 26.

Greenwood County coroner Jim Coursey told WYFF-TV that Adams was pronounced dead at Self Regional Hospital. He also told the station that Adams appeared to be in good health before his passing.

An autopsy was scheduled for Sunday.

Adams was the fourth overall selection in the 2007 draft by the Bucs. Tampa traded him to the Bears in October for a second-round draft pick in April.

He appeared in 15 games last season with the Bears and Bucs and recorded one sack.

Adams is the second NFL player to die in as many months, following the passing of former Bengals WR Chris Henry in December. -- Sean Leahy

An autopsy will be performed Sunday by the Anderson County forensic pathologist, Coursey said.

WTF?

RIP Gaines Adams

Bear fans were all over the trade that brought him to Chicago and he was hoping to rebound next year and prove that he was worth the 2nd round pick. This is just terrible, terrible news...

Let's hope this isn't somehow drug related, pretty tragic.

RIP Adams.

Gaines Adams was a good man. He never caused any problems while on the Bucs, especially for opposing offenses.

I don't watch much of this sport, but this is tragic.

R.I.P

This is the second NFL player to die this year isn't it? Does it normally happen this frequently?

Steroids are illegal in this sport yes?

Yes steroids are illegal. And yeah two deaths in about a month. No, it doesn't happen very often. Maybe once every two years.
