Twas a pretty hot topic on even Atlanta local sports radio today.

There's some who believe Dodgers' ownership is ready to pull the rug out from underneath him.....while others think the organization would be retarded to cut him loose now.  I'm one who believes the latter.   Mattingly is an excellent manager and holy shit, the guy's squad has been nothing but key injury after key injury.  But still, we've seen really good managers end up being dismissed simply because the clubhouse doesn't respond very well anymore.

How does this end up playing out?  The NL West is definitely a division where the Giants have proven...you can coast all season long and end up winning the World Series.  But with all the money they've spent this offseason, I don't think LA is interested in coasting for too much longer.

Managerial changes are pretty damn overrated. unless the manager constantly makes bone headed moves or has a terrible relationship with the players, then stick with him. Much like the Jays, the dodgers have been hit with injuries early in the season which always puts managers in a horrible position.

I am the voice of the Dodgers

Donnie sucks. His managing is awful. He double switches for double switching sake, he brings in the wrong pitchers. he pinch hits at awful times, his lineups usually suck. and he is in LOVE with the sac bunt, and with guys like AJ ELLIS. wtf

I wouldnt fire him though. most managers suck.....if he was fired though, i wouldnt care. he's bad

the problem with the Dodgers aside from injuries and guys like Kemp and Ethier not producing: Ned Colletti the GM

Ned is awful. easily the worst GM in baseball left. jst go look at Brandon League's 3 year deal off of 1 good month lol

guys like Jim Hendry, Tony Reagins, Omar MInaya, etc are all fired. Ned is the only one left unfortunately. Dodgers are going to suck until he's gone

You're right Mexi, Mattingly is way too much of a technical manager and doesn't fit into this flashy lineup Coletti and new ownership has spent so much money on.  Donnie would be money with a smaller market team; younger players and not as high expectations.  The Dodgers need another guy like Joe Torre.  What made Joe so good was his ability to juggle clubhouse personalities and deal with the New York & LA media.  As far as baseball is concerned, did he ever get up from his spot in the corner of the dugout?

Mattingly calling out his team before last night's game:

Don Mattingly pregame seemed to point finger at not only lack of “mental toughness” from his players but also at poor construction of the team.

”We gotta find a team with talent that will fight and compete like a club that doesn’t have that talent,” he said, pointing to last year’s team which led the NL West by 5 1/2 games at the end of May despite a far less-talented lineup.

”I felt we got more out of our ability (last year). I don’t know about being tougher but I felt we got more out of our ability. ”There has to be a mixture of competitiveness. It’s not ‘Let’s put an All-Star team together and the All-Star team wins.’ It’s finding that balance of a team that has a little bit of grit and will fight you. And also having talent to go with it.

”All grit and no talent isn’t going to make you successful. But all talent and not grit isn’t going to get you there either.”
