Felony Charge Against Talib Dropped

A felony charge against Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Aqib Talib was dropped by Dallas County prosecutors Monday, his attorney Frank Perez said.

Talib was set to stand trial on June 25 on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

"We appreciate the District Attorney's thorough review of this case," Perez said in a statement. "Aqib is appreciative of the support that he received from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' organization, his teammates, Buccaneers' fans and his friends and family during this difficult period. With this matter now successfully behind him, Aqib's sole focus is on contributing to a successful 2012 season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers."

A 2008 first-round pick and a starter the last three seasons, Talib still is subject to punishment by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

Talib's latest brush with the law occurred 15 months ago in Garland, Texas. Police in Garland said Talib pistol whipped and fired shots at his sister's boyfriend.

Talib, 26, was suspended for the season opener in 2010 following an altercation with a cab driver in St. Petersburg.
