ST. JOSEPSH, Mo. The Chiefs had good news Sunday with the return of All-Pro strong safety Eric Berry, who missed the last two days of practice with a right heel injury.

It felt good today and went well, Berry said.

The fifth-year pro suffered the injury Thursday. Chiefs coach Andy Reid originally said Berry had a sore ankle before the heel injury was revealed Friday.

Berry said the injury prevented him from planting his foot, but communication with the Chiefs coaching staff and training staff played a role in his fast recovery.

(Head athletic trainer) Rick (Burkholder) has been doing a good job of keeping me on schedule, Berry said. Keeping me in the training room making sure everything is good. I let them know how I feel and they ask me how I feel. Were very open and honest about it, and I think thats what really helped me progress so well.

The Chiefs practice Monday before taking off Tuesday and Wednesday ahead of Thursday nights preseason opener against the Cincinnati Bengals.

For his part, Berry believes hell be available for Thursdays preseason game if the Chiefs need him.

I should be fine, Berry said. Its football at the end of the day and Ive been playing a lot of football, so well see how it goes.
