Too bad he can't ever stay healthy. The Philadelphia Eagles released safety Kenny Phillips on Sunday, per NFL.com. The move comes two days before the deadline to cut rosters down to 75 players
A first-round pick with the New York Giants in 2008, Phillips played at a high level early on, but his NFL career has been derailed by knee injuries. The Eagles signed him to a one-year deal loaded with incentives in the offseason, but he couldn't even make it to the regular season, missing the last two preseason games with a quadriceps injury.
Still only 26, Phillips' career isn't quite dead yet, but he hasn't been able to shake off injury woes, playing all 16 games just twice in five seasons. He could still get a look from safety-needy teams over the next couple weeks -- the Giants may very well consider a reunion after losing Stevie Brown to a torn ACL.
