Doc Rivers declined a meeting with Donald Sterling following the release of the Los Angeles Clippers' owner's racist comments and he also has released a lengthy public statement condemning him.

I would like to reiterate how disappointed I am in the comments attributed to [Donald Sterling] and I cant even begin to tell you how upset I am and our players are," wrote Rivers. "Today, I had a meeting with the members of our organization. When you are around all these people, you realize they are just as upset and embarrassed by the situation and it does not reflect who they really are. That was what I got from all of them."

Sources tell Yahoo! Sports that Rivers will never return as president and head coach under Sterling. Rivers joined the Clippers last offseason from the Boston Celtics.

Rivers was one of the NBA's leading broadcasters before becoming a head coach, which gives him an immediate financial alternative if he's not let out of his contract to join another team.

If Rivers leaves the Clippers, it likely would trigger a public mutiny in which other top players demand trades.
