Charlie Cobb Blackmon, who was drafted in the second round of the 2008 draft by the Colorado Rockies, hasn't made a dent in the major leagues just yet, but he has accidentally impacted the plans of another big league team for the 2011 season.
The Arizona Diamondbacks now have an opening in the rotation after a line drive by Blackmon fractured the hand of pitcher Zach Duke, who went 8-15 for the Pittsburgh Pirates last year.
The Arizona Republic reports that Duke will be out 6-8 weeks recovering.
"It was very sensitive in the area, but I'm kind of surprised there's two broken bones in there," Duke said, according to the paper. "I'm going to shoot for as short a recovery as possible. The bones will tell me how much time it's going to take. The doctor wanted me to have X-rays each week to keep track of how it's healing. I'm going to be optimistic for sure."
