New York Rangers forward Andre Deveaux has been suspended, without pay, for three games for delivering an illegal check to the head of Florida forward Tomas Fleischmann during NHL Game #307 Wednesday night in Sunrise, Fla., the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today.
Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Deveaux will forfeit $8,513.52. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
At 10:59 of the second period, Deveaux delivered a blow with his elbow to Fleischmann's head. Fleischmann was injured on the play and taken to the lockerroom but returned later in the period. Officials assessed a match penalty to Deveaux under Rule 48.5 for an illegal check to the head that caused injury.
Deveaux will miss games this afternoon at Washington, Nov. 26 vs. Philadelphia and Nov. 29 vs. Pittsburgh. He will be eligible to return Dec. 1 at Carolina.
