Looks like the question whether the Chicago Cubs would be buyers or sellers at the trading deadline has been answered. Sources tell the Chicago Tribune the team has firmly decided on the latter and is planning to start dumping salaries before the July 31 non-waiver trading deadline.
After all, the team is 9.5 games out of the wild-card chase and a game more back to the Cincinnati Reds in the National League Central race.
"It has been very difficult for the family and the team the first half of the season," owner Tom Ricketts told season-ticket holders Thursday at Wrigley Field, as reported by the paper. "This is not where the family wanted to be in the first half of the season."
Cubs that may be heading elsewhere include Ted Lilly, Ryan Theriot, Derrek Lee, and Kosuke Fukudome.
