I would not take that if I am him. He can get more market value than that

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz said he would sign his restricted free-agent tender Friday, June 14. "I'm going to sign my tender today and will continue talks for a long-term deal before camp starts."

Well isn't he restricted? What were his options?

He was about to take a salary of $673k or around there because he wasn't signing. Lock him up long-term, and then when he is an UFA, he can sign wherever he wants.

At least that's what I believe will be the case.

The Giants were NEVER going lower his salary to $630K. Cruz was upset that he was going to get $2.3M, so if they lowered that deal to $630K, he was going to leave the Giants. Now, Cruz gets fined by the GMen for every day he holds out.

If Cruz held out on signing that tender, the Giants would have caved in. They NEED him; he's extremely crucial towards their success. And if they didn't cave in, and Cruz held out all year, the Giants would be much worse. Plus I doubt it would hurt Cruz that much. Percy Harvin played less than half a year and got paid $11.3M annually. Mike Wallace had a very average season, and got paid $12M. You don't think Cruz can get $8M??

No, he could, but I've always been confused with the contracts. Never really fully followed it.

Nicks is more important, to be honest. The Giants offense went into the crapper when Cruz was the main option last season.

I feel like Randle can be good as well, and I feel like he's close to a Nicks type of player. Cruz and Randle.

But then again... I feel like Nicks as more heart for the team than Cruz. But the injuries..

@JayGlazer:
Giants and Victor Cruz have agreed to terms on new 5-yr extension for $43 million on top of his 1 yr tender. Expected to sign it by tomorrow

Thank God it's done. I don't mind that deal, could be a lot worse.

The contract allows both sides to win. The extension can be advertised as worth $8.6 million annually by Cruz's agent, which puts him knocking on the door of a top 10 receiver. In reality, the entire six-year deal is a team friendly contract worth under $8 million-per-year. - NFL.com

idk how this affects our outlook to re-signing Nicks but if we can still get him close to $8M a year and Nicks plays a full healthy season I'm a-ok with this deal.

Right, it is all going to depend on Nick's health, I'm not that worried about JPP though. We need to lock him up.
