Its good to have him back, the players love having him around, he knows the game of football, he is just not a good head coach.According to Michael Lombardi of NFL Network, Romeo Crennel will be staying on with the Cleveland Browns in a role that has yet to be determined. Lombardi thinks it will be in an assistant to Eric Mangini role, one that will be heavily slanted to pro personnel.
Apparently Romeo will have a hip replacement in the coming few weeks and after that he will join Mangini at the hip to lead this team into 2009.
There is little doubt that Romeo didn’t have much say in how the Browns were built and what kind of players were on this team. He did his best with the players that were gotten by former GM Phil Savage. With almost 40 years of coaching and six Super Bowl appearances, winning five of them, under his belt, Crennel must know a thing or two about what type of players a team needs to win in the NFL.
With Kokinis the favorite to land the general manager role, his expertise is pro personnel. meaning it appears more likely they Browns will rely heavily on TJ McCreight to steer the draft efforts. Kokinis helped McCreight get into the NFL and worked closely with him in Baltimore. Regardless how much Lerner wants Kokinis, it seems likely he will join the Browns until the Ravens are completely out of the playoffs, since Kokinis helps the Ravens with scouting other teams and their weaknesses.
