Despite another blowout -- and another performance out of Derek Anderson that lacked luster -- Cleveland Browns coach Eric Mangini is sticking with Anderson as his QB, continuing to keep Brady Quinn on the sidelines even at the tail end of losing efforts.
We all know that by not reaching the 70 percent threshold of his team's offensive snaps this season, Quinn stands to lose almost $11 million that he would earn as a bonus. Therefore, even a well-balanced person would start to hatch conspiracy theories that maybe Mangini has been given a directive by notoriously-cheap Browns owner Randy Lerner to keep Quinn firmly on the bench.
Asked whether the bonus was the cause for Quinn's lack of PT, Mangini said, "That has nothing to do with it. Nothing. Zero," according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Despite Mangini's assurances, it's logical that the team has thought about saving that money, especially given the fact that Quinn might not even be around for next season.
Of course, Quinn wasn't exactly lighting the world on fire with his play as the starter, and NFL Insider Adam Schefter reminds us of this in an email today:
"People have reason to question Eric Mangini on a number of topics, but not this one. He's going to play the quarterback that gives his team the best chance to win -- and for now that's Derek Anderson. Something tells me we'll see Brett Ratliff before we see Brady Quinn -- and there are not 11 million reasons why this is."
