Not quite sure where he fits in. They already have Caron, Grant, and Odom that are capable of playing the 3

They're all capable, but none are any good anymore.

Not to say that Barnes is actually good himself, though.

Barnes isn't terrible. great energy
he was really banged up last season. but he adds some more toughness to an already pretty gritty team and more depth. though they are stacked at the wing. might be playing some small ball this year though. DJ, Blake, Hollins, Turiaf are the main bigs

not that big a deal, but Caron is always getting hurt and Grant Hill is old and out of Phoenix so they did need a little insurance
