Just a month after he was fired by the Jaguars, Jack Del Rio is a candidate to become a head coach for another NFL team.
The Chiefs have interviewed Del Rio for their coaching vacancy, the Kansas City Star reports.
Del Rio’s name surfacing as a candidate for any NFL head-coaching position comes as a surprise. He was fired after getting off to a 3-8 start in 2011, and he didn’t lead the Jaguars to a winning record in any of his final four seasons in Jacksonville. It’s hard to see Chiefs fans warmly embracing Del Rio as their next head coach.
Romeo Crennel, who went 2-1 as the interim head coach for the final three games of the season after Todd Haley was fired, remains a candidate to become the Chiefs’ head coach on a permanent basis. Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin is the only other candidate known to have interviewed for the Kansas City vacancy.
