After announcing earlier this week that Michael Pineda would miss the 2012 season, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman admitted to fearing he made a mistake in trading away Jesus Montero for the right-hander.

"Right now, our hopes and dreams for this player are in jeopardy," Cashman said of Pineda. "Hopefully, someday, our fans will get to see what we expected to see from him for many years to come."

New York announced Wednesday that Pineda had suffered a torn labrum in a rehabilitation start on Saturday in Tampa and would undergo season-ending shoulder surgery.

"This is a massive decision gone wrong right now," Cashman said. "So all scrutiny is fair."

I think its way too early to tell if this was a bad decision. He is still a very young pitcher and it is no sure fact that Jesus Montero is going to become an excellent catcher.

Because he's not close to being MLB ready yet and we would have never traded Montero if Jose Campos was the best thing we were getting in the deal.
