The Washington Capitals have acquired defenceman Dennis Wideman from the Florida Panthers in exchange for prospect winger Jake Hauswirth and a third-round draft pick in the 2011 draft.

The 27-year-old Wideman is in his sixth NHL season, spending time with the Panthers, Boston Bruins, St. Louis Blues, and Buffalo Sabres - the team that drafted him in the eight round (241st overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

Hauswirth, 23, is a 6-foot-5 forward that's seeing game action with the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL. In 37 games, the Houghton, MI, native has 10 goals and four assists with eight penalty minutes.

Hauswirth signed with the Capitals as a free agent on May 5, 2009.

Hopefully it takes a bit of pressure off Wideman (can't be THE guy) and he bounces back. He pissed me off playing bad in Boston but he was never a douche about it and I actually hate when B's fans continue to rip him and hope he does terrible.
