Sullivan, 45, worked under Tortorella in both Tampa Bay and New York from 2007-13. Prior to that, he spent two years as the head coach in Boston and one as the bench boss in AHL Providence.
A former center that played over 700 NHL contests, Sullivan was not expected to return to his assistant post with the Rangers under Vigneault.
UPDATE: Canucks GM Mike Gillis confirmed his club received permission to speak with Sullivan.
Would make sense that Sully wouldn't follow through with this. There are not many coaching gigs right now, so he won't be getting his own job there.
He has experience working with Torts, so I don't see why not.
