Next on Calvin Johnson's to-do list? The record books.

The Detroit Lions receiver is hungry to shatter the NFL's single-season receiving mark en route to crossing 2,000 yards.

"It'd be great if I could do that," Johnson told the Detroit Free Press. "Yeah, it'd be fantastic."

It's not outside the realm of possibility. Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice set the league record in 1995 with 1,848 yards through the air. Isaac Bruce racked up 1,781 in the same season with the St. Louis Rams.

Megatron landed seventh all-time last season with 1,681, a major chunk of Matthew Stafford's 5,038-yard explosion. Johnson says he wants to top 100 yards per game, and he'll need to average that and more to shake down 2,000.

Rice played in a pass-first offense in 1995. Like Johnson, he was the core focus of every defensive scheme and still won matchups. That San Francisco 49ers squad was light on the ground in 1995, led by Derek Loville's 723 yards. The Lions are paper thin in the backfield, too, the possible catalyst for a monster season by Megatron.

Johnson faces a tough matchup this Sunday against cornerback Cortland Finnegan and the St. Louis Rams, but he's gone head-to-head and bested top corners before.

Two-thousand yards is a real possibility, especially on a Lions team primed to roll up yards through the sky

It would be amazing if he could do that. He could have had a bit more receiving yards if he had at least 100 in each last season(If he had 100, exactly, on the games he was under 100, he would have had 1,951). He basically can't have an off week to pull this off. That said, I see him getting around 1,500 but here's hoping he gets more.

If anyone is ever going to do it, it will be Calvin. Really don't think it is out of the question.
However I don't think he gets there.

I doubt he'll ever get there, as much as I'd love to see it happen. I want to see him do his other goal of at least 100 yards a week. That would be ideal for a season.
