The New Orleans Hornets have fired Coach Byron Scott and will make the formal annoucment at a 1 p.m. press conference.

General manager Jeff Bower will assume coaching duties, according to a league source. Bower is a one-time Hornets assistant, but has never been a head coach in the NBA.
Long overdue IMO. I'm not thrilled with Bower taking over, but I'll give the guy a chance.

I would blame this one on the front office, they did nothing to re-build on that season they had a few years ago, and Scott was COTY what? 2 years ago?

You cant win with mediocre talent, CP3 has been the only constant, DWest has dropped off considerably, and they never had that perimeter scorer.

Kop out by the GM.

Exactly. It's always the easiest way to go when things aren't going right. Coaches coach and the players play. Not Byron's fault that the Hornets don't have any perimeter threats, and that they traded away Tyson Chandler (who's a better fit for CP3) for Okafor.

I have to agree...this is a cop out by the gm. Byron is a good coach. He wont be out of work for too long.

Scott WAS a good coach. He nolonger had no interest in coaching the Hornets and it showed. In a different situation, he could be a very good coach. Don't be fooled, this move was overdue.

The Hornets motto was "Passin, Purpose, Pride" and Scott showed none of that. Scott was just sticking around until the Lakers job became open. He never wanted to be in NOLA.

Scott is part of the reason the Hornets are in the situation they're in right now. He pushed to sign Peja, and that has not worked out. He pushed to sign Posey, and that has not worked out. He put together a terrible coaching staff. His scheme was figured out and he made no attempt to adjust.

It just didn't work out.

He'll likely sit out and work for ABC/ESPN this season and step up next season. I can see him taking over in LA..

Yea it makes sense. Scott is one of the most talked about candidates to take over for the Lakers when PJax decides to hang it up.

I can see him coming to L.A. but not the Lakers.

He'll probably sit this season out, like Carlisle and Flip Saunders did, and once the Clips get rid on Dunleavy after this season, boom.

just a guess, of course

CP3 is very pissed off, he and Byron had a very close relationship. Now Jeff Bower will be coaching him and this situation just looks very bad. But Byron had to go, the guy wasnt coaching anymore. David West told some of his close friends that they didnt run any plays.

I wouldn't say very, but he certaintly isn't happy. But if there is one weakness CP has, it's he gets too connected. When the Hornets traded TC last season, he pouted. When the Hornets traded Sual during the offseason, he pouted. Now Scott is out, and while I didn't see the game last night, many said he was pouting and barely playing. Take a look at this thread:

http://hornetsreport.com/HRForums/showthread.php?t=58152

But your right, Scott was nolonger coaching. West said some pretty harsh things about Scott, like the guy had too much pride to change anything, even though things weren't working. Etc etc. One thing I heard is during the offseason the uppercore of the Hornets demanded Scott to change his defensive rotations, yet like West said, he had too much pride to do so. Also, Scott never played or developed rookies. Is it a coincidence that Scott is out, Thornton gets his shot, and he puts up over 20?
