Reggie Bush will not need surgery to repair torn ligaments in his left knee, however the injury could keep him on the shelf for the remainder of the 2007 regular season. Saints head coach has said the Bush remains a possible "game-time" decision, however sources have told ESPN.COM that it is almost certain the tailback will not play Monday Night in Atlanta. League sources cite a November 4th game versus Jacksonville being the game Bush initially sustained his injury, only to have aggravated it in recent weeks. Bush's injury is comparable to the same injury recently sustained by Vikings runningback Adrian Peterson, however Bush's PCL looks to be more than "partially" torn and unlike Peterson, Bush did not opt to sit out and rest it for a couple games.
Bush has already undergone an MRI and is scheduled to meet with Dr. James Andrew in Birmingham on Monday to determine the best way to treat the injury. It is very uncommon that PCL injuries similar to Bush's do not require surgery. Bush has rushed for 581 yards and four touchdowns in 12 games, however his longest run of the season is only 22 yards. Another blow to the New Orleans Saints, who already lost Deuce McAllister early in the season. Aaron Stecker and Pierre Thomas will most likely split carries in the absence of Bush when the Saints line up against the Falcons on Monday Night Football. -AE
