Reading the headline, I scratched my head a little bit. With the dilemma of Derek Anderson's expiring contract and high-priced draftee, Brady Quinn yet to see any NFL action, the Browns have re-signed back up Ken Dorsey to a 3-year extension.
Upon reading further into the story, I discovered that Dorsey is credited to have been one hell of a mentor to both Anderson and Quinn during the 2007 season. Dorsey is credited with mass knowledge of first-year offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski's system, allowing him to play a key role in aiding Derek Anderson's progress throughout the season. Dorsey learned and played under Chudzinski's system at the University of Miami.
The Browns acquired Dorsey from San Francisco in 2006, waiving him by the end of Training Camp. Dorsey was then re-signed by the Browns after the team traded Charlie Frye to Seattle. Dorsey threw for 1,712 yards and 8 touchdowns in 10 career starts with the 49ers.
"Ken has been a vital part of our offensive production this year and we look forward to having him as part of our team going forward," said Browns GM Phil Savage. -AE
