ESPN - You can add the Broncos to the lengthy list of teams interested in Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh.

According to two league sources, Denver is trying to arrange a meeting with Harbaugh, who is being heavily courted by San Francisco.

The Dolphins interviewed Harbaugh, but they announced on Thursday night that Tony Sparano would be retained.

Earlier this week, Harbaugh was known to still be considering a return to Stanford.

The Denver Broncos are no longer aggressively pursuing Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh for their vacant head-coaching position.

John Elway, the Broncos' new football czar, said on his weekly radio show on 87.7 The Ticket in Denver on Friday that he believes Harbaugh wants to stay at Stanford, where star quarterback Andrew Luck will return next season rather than turn pro.

Elway said he believes Harbaugh's alma mater, the University of Michigan, also might be back in the picture after the coach listened to pitches from the San Francisco 49ers and Miami Dolphins this week.

Elway also said he's seeking permission from the Houston Texans to interview offensive coordinator Rick Dennison, a longtime Broncos assistant, and is considering calling former New York Giants coach Jim Fassel.

The Broncos, already committed to paying former head coaches Mike Shanahan and Josh McDaniels, were unable to meet with Harbaugh this week and might have balked at the coach's asking price, The Denver Post reported Friday.

The Broncos weren't considered front-runners for Harbaugh, who's seeking a deal worth around $6.5 million per season, which Pete Carroll received from the Seattle Seahawks last year to leave USC, according to NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora.

La Canfora also reported Thursday that while there remains the possibility the San Francisco 49ers will attempt to pry Harbaugh away from Stanford, it could prove to be a fruitless exercise. The coach remains a very real candidate to stay at the school, La Canfora said, citing a source.

According to The Associated Press, Stanford has made an amended offer to Harbaugh with enhancements from an offer presented in early December.

Including all bonuses and clauses, Harbaugh could earn more at Stanford than with the 49ers, who met with the coach Wednesday and have offered around $4.5 million to $5 million.

The Dolphins also pursued Harbaugh this week, but NFL Network insider Michael Lombardi said Thursday night that Tony Sparano has been told he will return for a fourth season as head coach.

La Canfora reported that Dolphins owner Steve Ross and other officials were en route to Florida on Thursday night after their pursuit of Harbaugh in California. The team likely will announce its decision to retain Sparano on Friday.

Elway will interview New York Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell and Broncos interim head coach Eric Studesville in Denver on Sunday. The Post reported that New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams also is on Elway's list.

Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey on Thursday canceled his interview with the team, which was set for Friday.

Mularkey will interview with the Cleveland Browns on Saturday. ESPN reports that Mularkey would be open to an interview with the Broncos if the job remains open after the Falcons' season is over.
