Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil was arrested in Miami Saturday night, and according to the police report, Dumervil, a 2006 fourth-round pick out of Louisville, is accused of aggravated assault with a firearm. Bond has been set at $7,500. CBS4 was first to report the news.

CBSSports.com Rapid Reporter Andrew Mason writes that "The arrest makes Dumervil the second Broncos defensive starter to face an open criminal inquiry; linebacker D.J. Williams faces a retrial on a DUI charge in August." (Willams was most recently in the news for flunking drug test No. 2.)

The Broncos have issued the requisite statement on the matter: "Our organization is aware of the matter, and is continuing to gather the facts. This is a very serious allegation, and we will thoroughly review the details while the legal process runs its course.”

Dumervil's agent had no comment on the matter to CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora, but a statement is expected later today.

The Denver Post's Lindsay Jones reports that aggravated assault with a firearm is a felony charge. The details of what led to the arrest haven't yet been made available, though an Elvis Dumervil born on January 19, 1984 does show up as a defendant in the Dade Country Clerks of Courts database.

Meanwhile, Dumervil's attorney, Harvey Steinberg, tells ESPN's Adam Schefter that "No charges have been filed. No aggravated assault or assault took place. And it is likely that once the full investigation is complete, no charges will be filed against Mr. Dumervil."

UPDATE, Monday, July 16, 10:00 a.m. ET: Via NFL.com: "Miami police confirmed Dumervil was in fact charged with felony aggravated assault with a firearm, not just arrested."

NFL.com also obtained a copy of the victim's statement in the incident report:

During a traffic incident the victim's vehicle ... merged in front of a Land Rover, operated by Dumervil in stopped traffic.
Both parties became agitated, made threats at one and other and honked their horns, according to the report. A passenger from the Land Rover, identified as Andy Auguste in the police report, then allegedly approached the victim's car, made verbal threats and lifted his shirt displaying a firearm. Dumervil also exited his vehicle and approached her vehicle where lifted his shirt and also displayed a firearm, according to the report.
The victim, who said she was in fear of her life, then attempted to retreat by driving off.
After leading the league with 17 sacks in 2009, Dumervil signed a $61.5 million contract extension. He missed the 2010 season with a pectoral injury, but bounced back with 9.5 sacks in 2011 during the Broncos' run to the AFC West title. In his six-year career, Dumervil, 28, has 52.5 sacks, nine fumble recoveries and an interception.

The Broncos open training camp on July 25.

Hope he doesn't start ruin his career. He's had a solid one so far, even with missing the entire 2010 season. Players can be so dumb sometimes.
