Before practice earlier this week, Shaw and his coaching staff met with Lawson and Faried about finishing the season strong and embracing their role as leaders on the court and in the locker room.

"I just keep trying to encourage both of them to start thinking more in those terms," Shaw said. "They've come to the forefront as the cornerstones that this team is going to be built around."

Shaw recognizes Ty Lawson and Kenneth Faried as "cornerstones that this team is going to be built around." Very interesting indeed. Shaw was quick to point out flaws in both Lawson and Faried's games early in the season. He actually questioned Lawson's ability to transform himself into a vocal leader before the season and harped on Faried's attention to detail throughout much of the regular season.

It appears that some tough love from the first year head coach has been helping to build a solid relationship with two key players on this 33-42 record team. That's good to hear.

Agreed. Ideally Lawson would have more size, but I really like him as well. A little below average defensively, but he is above average defending the pick and roll and is probably around average defending on a island. His problem is he gets posted up a lot for a PG and his size doesn't really allow him to get out and contest shots on his rotations and such.

I've given my opinions on Faried before, would take him on my team in a second, but I'm not so sure he's a guy you really take into consideration while building a team.

both play with a lot of heart, and thats something that gets overlooked so they do have that huge plus going forward.

I would say though that the whole "his heart makes up for his lack of size and physical tools" has become kind of cliche. Having "heart" doesn't fully make up for either of their short comings. Lawson and Faried are good examples of that actually.
