After 9 seasons as Baltimore Ravens head coach, Brian Billick has been fired. The firing comes after a disappointing 5-11 season and just weeks after Billick was told by Ravens' ownership that he would return in 2008.

"I just changed my mind," Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti told The Baltimore Sun on Monday. "I can't explain it to you. It's the toughest decision I've had to make." Billick was signed to a contract extension through 2010 less than a year ago.

Billick's reign as Ravens' head coach produced 4 playoff seasons, a franchise best 13-3 record in 2006, and a Super Bowl title in 2000. However Billick's legacy seemingly tarnished a bit too much as Baltimore lost a team record of 9 straight games this season.

"This is the reality of our business," cornerback Samari Rolle said. "Sometimes the message can get repetitive after a while," 12-year offensive tackle Jonathan Ogden said. "I'm not saying I agree with it," kicker Matt Stover said of Billick's dismissal, "but sometimes things have to change."

Billick was hired by Baltimore in January of 1999, following the dismissal of Ted Marchibroda. The Ravens produced a record of 80-64 under Billick. -AE

Do you guys think he'll be able to get another head coaching job this coming season or do you think he'll take a year off?

That's easy...defensive coordinator Rex Ryan. If he doesn't get the head coaching job in Baltimore, he will get it elsewhere.
