Last season's opener knocked Tom Brady out of football. He's hoping next season's launches his comeback.

Brady

Brady expects to be ready for the New England Patriots' first game of the 2009 season, the Boston Globe reported on Monday. He suffered a season-ending knee injury in last season's first game and has had multiple procedures and battled infection since. There was some question whether he would be ready for the opener.

Brady is on pace with his rehabilitation and is even dropping back and throwing passes, a medical source told the Globe. Citing medical and NFL sources, the newspaper reported that no further procedures are scheduled on Brady's left knee.

Was Chiefs safety Bernard Pollard's hit on Tom Brady dirty?

"Based on anybody else doing an ACL rehab, he's going right along," a source said, according to the Globe. "He had a shaky start, but he's caught up."

The newspaper reported that Brady is throwing, running, doing drills and getting in shape. The source told the Globe that Brady still has some "laxity" in his medial collateral ligament, some stiffness and has not recovered complete range of motion. None of those issues is unusual, however, considering the severity of his injury.

The Patriots are reportedly still considering using the franchise tag on quarterback Matt Cassel, who led the team to an 11-5 record last season.
Glad to see he'll be ready for the opener. He's my fav player, and hopefully he's back to the way he was last season (the year Pats were 16-0, not this one)

I've said it once, I'll say it again.

It's not easy to come back into the NFL after an injury like the one he suffered.
It could take another year- year and 1/2 to get back to how good he was.

Even though he has 2 of the best WRs in the leauge, he's a very good QB.

well with how cassell played this year that leads to speculation that he was just a product of the system..
Brady won 3 superbowls with a much more worse WR group than he and Cassell have now. If Brady's a product of a system, so is Manning.

brady is a product of the system?

so why didnt the patriots go 16-0 this year and win the superbowl, like last year if cassel is "better than brady" cuz they are both products of the system right?

honestly get some football sense and then come back and talk lol

this is the greatest quaterback of the decade, mr.brady... pretty sure he isnt a product of the system

well I'd say tied with Manning but w/e
well i mean it is definatly close... reason im giving it to brady is because he has won 3 superbowls compared to mannigns 1... but ya i mean now we have seen both QB's with strong and mediocore wides and yes it is definatly close to the top QB of the decade

Trent Dilfer had those two WR he still be in the league throwing the ball to them. He would be the best QB.

all the bias tom brady fans..

if brady wasnt a product of the system matt cassell would have had a terrible year and the pats would have lost alot more games..

the pats have a stacked team allowing other options to be used.. brady on a mediocre team with a bad defense you will see his stats decline.. im not sayin he sucks or anything like that.. he just aint the best qb of the decade

You could say any QB wins a SB or is an all-time legend by there system. You could say that about like Joe Montana, or anyone who spent most of there career in one spot. Although Brett Favre kinda breaks that mold.

Brady is still a top 5 QB in the NFL. Even if it is the system, doesn't make a difference. If he's in that system still he's gonna be a top 5 QB

Either way you never know what kind of a come back Brady will have when he comes back next season plus he will still be one of the top qb's in the league. Also you can't can't judge a qb about how good they are based on by how many super bowls they've won, that stuff takes a full team effort not just one person.

its because matt cassel is actually a half decent quaterback , thats why we didnt have a terrible season

and the patriots were pretty banged up this year and if you looked at the roster we didnt have the same stats from top performers from last year. and if he is not the best he certianly tied

then why wasn't matt cassel the best QB this year?

How can the guy who has won three superbowl rings, made 5 conference finals, 2 super bowl mvp awards, most touchdowns in a single season, nfl mvp not be the qb of the decade?

Too many other QB`s had better years, like Pennington, Collins, Warner, etc.

It`s more of his supporting cast(WR`s, RB`s, Defense, etc), not so much of his own abilities. I`m not saying he isn`t a great qb, because he can be at times, and he was a smart kid going to a great college, but he definately wouldn`t be the qb of the decade. There`s soo many great talents at Qb to decide that.
