There's really not too much that would shock us coming out of the Cleveland Browns organization right now. Last week brought a trade of the team's No. 1 receiver Braylon Edwards -- arguably the sole weapon on the offense -- as well as allegations that rookie running back James Davis suffered a season-ending injury because he was padless and hit by a player who was in full pads.
Yesterday, we had word from Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer that Brady Quinn was on the trading block after being replaced by Derek Anderson. Coach Eric Mangini reiterated on Monday that "D.A. will continue to start" in spite of a 15.1 QB rating against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
Last night, word came over the news wire that Quinn's house is up for sale. While some might think nothing of this -- perhaps he just wants to live closer to LeBron James -- we can speculate a bit and make a connection with Jay Cutler's trade. After an initial round of trade rumors related to Cutler circulated, his house in Colorado was reportedly up for sale, and although we were told to "think nothing of it" by various pundits, he was soon shipped out to Chicago.
We'll update when we hear more.
"When Cleveland benched Brady Quinn, it also sacked his earning power. Quinn's contract contained a clause that said he had to play in 70 percent of the team's offensive plays this season -- roughly 11 games -- to trigger a $5 million escalator in pay for this season and a $5.95 million escalator for next season. Thus, if Quinn is on the bench for six games this season -- his second will come in the Browns fifth game today against the Bills -- then he stands not to make $10.95 million in bonuses."
