Ahmad Bradshaw (l.).
The NFL is looking into whether Ahmad Bradshaw has violated the league's personal conduct policy and is subject to suspension.
The Giants' running back has been in a Virginia jail since Sunday, serving a 30-day sentence for violating terms of a probation stemming from an undisclosed juvenile offense - a violation that, several sources say, took place prior to his being drafted last year.
While Bradshaw's lawyer, family and friends have said that the running back has not committed any new offense or crime to violate the probation, the NFL is keeping an eye on the situation. If commissioner Roger Goodell deems that Bradshaw has violated the league's conduct policy code, he could suspend Bradshaw.
"We are looking into it to determine whether he is subject to discipline," said Greg Aiello, the NFL's senior vice president of public relations.
Bradshaw's supporters argue that the running back has done nothing wrong since being drafted by the Giants in the seventh round last year and that he is only serving jail time because of a prior offense - which is reportedly sealed because it occurred when Bradshaw was a juvenile. The Giants argued as much in a statement on Thursday.
Bradshaw's father, James, said the juvenile offense that led to this probation is not related to his son's prior run-ins with the law while at Marshall University and the University of Virginia. Bradshaw pleaded guilty to stealing a video game console from a dorm room at Marshall in 2006. Charges were dropped, but Bradshaw was given two years' probation. Bradshaw was kicked out of the University of Virginia in 2004 following an arrest for underage alcohol possession and reportedly resisting arrest.
"It's just a childhood incident, that is all it was," said Doug Marrs, head football coach and athletic director at Graham High School, where Bradshaw starred in Bluefield, Va. "I just know that he is clean since the Marshall incident. He is clean."
Bradshaw's jail time is scheduled to end before he has to report to Giants camp on July 24.
WAIVE HELLO: The Giants claimed WR Craphonso Thorpe off waivers from Jacksonville and signed sixth-round pick DE Robert Henderson. The team also waived DB Miguel Scott.
