I think the league has finally had enough of Bowen's tactics which put other players at serious risk for injury. Good move by the league IMO. Bowen's streak was very impressive however.ESPN.com news services

No middle ground on Bowen
Fans either love or hate Bruce Bowen. Spurs supporters love him for his elite defensive play, but his one-game suspension for kicking Chris Paul was greeted as a vindication by critics who label him a dirty player. TrueHoop
Bruce Bowen of San Antonio, who has the longest active consecutive games played streak in the NBA, won't play Friday night after he was suspended earlier in the day.
Bowen was suspended one game without pay for using his leg to hit New Orleans Hornets guard Chris Paul in a game Wednesday night. A foul was called on Paul in the third quarter and Bowen retaliated by kicking Paul.
He will serve his suspension on Friday night , when the Spurs visit the Detroit Pistons.
Bowen began his streak on Feb. 28, 2002. Bowen has played and started 500 straight games, the most in the league. It began on Feb. 28, 2002.

Besides his streak, Bowen will lose about $373,000.
